Computer hardware is a tough biz: HP selling a desktop. monitor, TWO laptops, and a router for $1200

* Space-saving HP Slimline desktop (s5212y)
* Thin-profile 18.5" LCD monitor (w1858)
* Media-savvy HP laptop (G60-535DX)
* Compact HP Mini netbook (110-1125NR)
* Speedy NETGEAR Wireless-G router (WGR614)
* Seamless in-home setup of the PCs and router by Geek Squad (4000954811)

What the heck? You can get THREE computers for $1200? That's just outrageous. The desktop doesn't even sound that bad -- 3GB RAM, 2.5ghz dual core Pentium.

I am so glad I went software instead of hardware, though. If this isn't proof computer hardware is commodity, I don't know what is.

It's really cheap, indeed. I am pretty sure you'll soon find a lot of the items in this package sold separately on Craigslist!

Upselling from a $369 desktop with hopes of follow on sales / support and service plans for managing all 3 computers. GeekSquad charges $50 for printer help. $150 for backup consultation. It's a stunning amount of hardware but if it's sitting on the shelf and not moving anyhow?

Man. I miss seeing deals like that. I need a new laptop. I would put Ubuntu on the two laptops and Windows 7 / Ubuntu on the desktop. I'm good enough with computers that I wouldn't need their overpriced warranties and service 'deals'. This would be a steal for me.
